Nebesna

About the collection

The collection “Nebesna*” from Chernikova was presented on July 20 at SUMMER WEEKEND BY ODESSA FASHION DAY 2017

*“Nebesna” means “Celestial”

The lightness and airiness of the blouses are supplemented with clear geometrical patterns of ancient Ukrainian embroidery-nyzynka (running stitch embroidery put from below).

The designer, as an artist, managed to create her sky with her stars – only from fabrics and silk threads.

Feminine, light, romantic, tender.

The collection consists of light dresses from batiste, embroidered flared trousers, shorts from costume fabric and weightless cotton blouses.

Each look was created to convey the beauty of the infinite – from the horizon to the horizon – the starry sky seen by the designer in the mountains. Thin blue canvas is a celestial surface, white dots of paint are stars and clusters of ornaments are the whole Milky Way.

The dresses are decorated with delicate dark blue velvet and embroidered patterns (ancient motifs and techniques reinterpreted in modern times) – gerberas, ferns, various geometric ornaments.

The designer’s comment

The sky, that night it was so… special. From the horizon to the horizon it wrapped me up in thin, delicate fabric. Its color was also special, the paint was for sure watercolor. George Brummell, Walt Disney and Christian Dior had seen this sky, precisely this sky! Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Sophia Loren had dressed themselves in this sky.

This collection is about a state here and now, about a flirt, playfulness. Without clear rules. Where there is honesty and faithfulness only to yourself. No promises for the future to anyone else.

The state where there is maximum clarity of feelings, where good is only that to what internal personal consent is given.

The sky. Stars. The Milky Way.

Meanwhile here in the forest I am completely alone. There was nobody nearby, only a brook and crickets were heard.

They seemed to lure me into that high unmown grass. I obeyed, lay down and started listening to myself. What is this night about? What am I about? What are all of us (my art) here about?
The earth, warmed up by the burning August sun, had not cooled down yet. It seemed to me that its warmth could lift me up and I would fly. These sounds lulled me to sleep. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

Right in the middle of the night I was awakened by the hoot of an owl, which at that moment was flying just past me without touching a twig. I knew – it, long-tailed, wanted to say something to me. In fact, I realized what.

Having opened my eyes, I saw a stain. It was waving and leaning heavily on me, it was moving and pressing me. A majestic, endless, dark-dark blue, boundless stain of paint, sprayed with white dots of brush strokes. The sky. Stars. The Milky Way.

The sky… That night it was so! Mystical. It completely wrapped up my naked body in such a thin, delicate fabric. Its color was special, the paint was for sure watercolor. I am saying to you: George Brummell, Walt Disney and Christian Dior had seen this sky, precisely this sky! Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Sophia Loren had dressed themselves in this sky, precisely in this sky!

Painting

The Lord placed the milky way in heaven. I need to take a bit of this canvas, may I? Thank you, God! And I will add my own little piece to the picture, all right, God? Thank you!

I start painting: as an adult artist, only from fabrics, for it to be womanly, light, romantic, delicate. Maybe a bit frivolous, maybe unprincipled, but relaxed and gentle. I can scatter from 200 to 400 billion stars. Seriously and carelessly – like everything that is genial.

Such is my collection. It is about a state here and now, about a flirt, playfulness. Without clear rules. Where there is honesty and faithfulness only to yourself. No promises for the future to anyone else. The state where there is maximum clarity of feelings, where good is only that to what internal personal consent is given.

In such a way Nebesna (Celestial) was born. And in such a way I am reborn every time.
