The collection “Dotyk” is a moment of the designer’s contact with the world, her creative interpretation of her own feelings and their various shades. It is what she wants to share and with what to touch others. It is a worldview, a position, a vision.
This collection is a story about human relations and their value.
All items are decorated with woodblock printing on textiles, an ancient technique of textile decorating, that was widespread in the world and in Ukraine. I like this technique very much and I dreamed of telling people about it.
I really wanted the items to turn out simple and understandable to many, but they were born different.
The collection was presented at 4 exhibitions in Brussels (Belgium), Split (Croatia), New York and Montclair (USA). At each event I shared the story of creating the ornaments and silhouettes of the collection, told how I had traveled to Kosiv, how we worked at the design. It was important for me to talk about this, because many people are familiar with embroidery but not with woodblock printing on textiles, though it is also wonderful. It took a year to make the collection, which is a lot of time for me, I remade the last 8 out of 12 items several times.
Each woodblock printing on the fabric is a kind of imprint of the master’s touch on the material she works with. Woodblock printing on textiles, like a person’s touch on the cloth, symbolizes the moment when our lives intersect and we have the opportunity to help each other, to leave our mark. Each imprint is unique, like the character of each person who was involved in the creation and for whom the clothes were created.
The touch of one soul on the other leaves a mark. We all remember these marks.
We cherish some of them like the most valuable gold, we want to forget some but cannot wash them off, like red wine from a white shirt. This is so shaky and whimsical, important and painful, joyful and desirable.
The collection consists of 12 sets, including 6 dresses, 1 sarafan and 5 suits.
Most items are made in one size.
They have a loose cut, ruffles and belts.
Materials: linen, cotton ribbons, coconut buttons.
The loose forms are to permit everything to develop in its own way, at any pace. Linen is for firmness and comfort on the path of trials.
